Abstract :
The undertaking of the present study classroom action research was mainly intended to figure out whether clustering technique could improve the subjects writing skill. The subjects of the present study were the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Abiansemal in academic year 2017/2018 which consisted of 15 female and 13 male students. The present study was conducted because the subjects under study still found problem in writing descriptive text. In this present study, the researcher conducted classroom action research in which the study was divided into two cycles (cycle I and cycle II). Each cycle consisted of two sessions. Some instruments were used to collect the data in this present study, namely: pre-test, post-tests and questionnaire. Pre-test was conducted to know the students skill before the treatment was carried out. The result of pre-test showed that the students writing descriptive text was still low. The researcher then implemented clustering technique in two cycles. The result of the post-test in each cycle obviously showed that there was significant improvement concerning the subjects ability in writing. In this study, the questionnaire was conducted in the end of cycle II. The result of the questionnaire showed that there was changing learning behavior as the result of the positive responses of the subjectsb after being taught through clustering technique. In summary, the study proved that clustering technique could improve writing skill of the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Abiansemal in academic year 2017/2018; furthermore, the subjects also responded positively the implementation of clustering technique.
